I had a set of 220Mhz homebrew duplexers made out of copper pipe that worked 
better when I did NOT lock down the rod after adjustment.  This avoided the 
problem of the threaded rod pulling the plunger up and down during heating and 
expansion.  As long as you didn't subject the cans to any sharp movements they 
stayed in tune.
