My name is Ian Divertie and I am an excellent troubleshooter. I am
writing this from my flat In Alexandria, Egypt where I have been for
the last six years. Most of the Maxtrac faults I found without having
the service manual, that I talked about in my first post. The DAC on
the logic board, a zener, a bunch of transistors, some caps. I have
no idea what happened to the Maxtrac for that much stuff to be bad, oh
yeah the fuse was blown too, go figure, LOL. Some of the SMT
transistors were about impossible to find. Anyway, I am really a
computer and controls guy, but the number of Americans here, as well
as money, is limited so I volunteered to try and fix radios too. I
got em all working and I don't feel over my head, but certainly a
whole new world for me! The Sabers had alot of bad/broken whip
antennas, the batteries were dead as dodoes of course, the main thing
wrong with the two really messed up Sabers were the mylar plastic
ribbon connectors, sheesh, that was harder to find than you might
think.
