EFJ stuff is pretty much all good. Some of it is easy to 
work on and convert to amateur radio use. The sad part is 
how EFJ was sold to a big corp and the operations moved 
to Texas where they now only seem to sell and support P-25 
radio stuff.  In short they kind of left the conventional 
land mobile people just "out there". 

So you can kind of consider yourself out there on your own 
when dealing with non current products.  But the olders stuff 
is mucho fun to work/play with.  I have a few repeaters made 
from EF Johnson Challenger Mobiles put back to back and they 
work pretty well.
