Steve, Most ham rigs and sure their commerical versions consume vastly more power on receive than the older crystal rigs. However, a few synth rigs like the old RS HTX202 draw low current (20 ma), but most HTs are high, 160 ma vs 20-30 in the older rig.
Many of us who think about emergency ops think about this for their might be a time when AC power will be out for days or weeks.
