Hi Chris, You might also check the rear of the wood desk. Mine about 39 inches across between the side drawers. I would make an appropriate band simple dipole of copper tape and adhere it to the inside up off the floor out of the way of any metal. You can use thumbtacks to hold the ends to the wood and where you attach the coax. Use a phone line clip to hold the coax against the wood back. Dial the power down to 5-10 watts and any VSWR that you might have will not hurt the radio.
