APCO Project 25 is a standard, followed by all manufacturers that want to sell into public safety in the U.S. Radios are available from all the major (and many minor) players. None are cheap. There's an article coming for QST "soon" about P25 use in Ham Radio. I helped a friend who wrote it do some proof-reading on it. He says it's "accepted" for publication, but with lead times on magazines being measured in months, I don't know when it will actually show up. Keep an eye out.
