Usually the fiberglass antennas don't like swaying in the wind. If one
does not have a top mount and the wind picks up the antenna starts to
wip around and cause noise. The folded dipoles normally do not have
this problem.
I like providing a top mount on a fiberglass, something not easily done
for top mounted antennas.
The top mount I now have has an insulated material in a donut to fit
over the fiberglass antenna. So if you use a top mount make sure in
does not affect the antenna.

oh Chuck
after our test here we found also that Fiberglass seems to catch static
much more then metal antenna,
you need a good protection for that.
another $$$$ to be added!!!
and the angle of radiation,,, ,dont remember if it was mention in some
email???
ok bye for now,qsy at the shuttle now!!

Folded Diploles or Vertical antenna?
Performance wise, given the same gain, they will perform the same.
However, the folded dipole array will hold up to a lightning strike
and I've never seen a fiberglass antenna survive one.

antenna?
Hey guys, I'm trying to find radiation patterns or a calculator to
see what would be the best possible coverage for our repeater.
We are in the very flat lands of Texas and our repeater is only up
50 feet (total of 530 above sea level). With 120 watt output.
Which do you think would work better? A dual folded dipole antenna
with low angle of radiation or a fiberglass vertical at 6db?
