I use a not so old laptop with a serial and usb port. Before running any radio programming software I simply slow down the processor speed visible to the program/software using a free package called slomo (aka slo-mo).
I then get on with the task of programming the radio/device without spazzing over the computer processor speed. cheers, skipp
