To,

You didn't ruffle my goose down at all. I was just pointing out too you why
I think this list is great for some one in my situation. But sure there are
many different building procedures and every one enjoys it in a different
way. So no problems here.

Scott,
I didn't mean to imply that my opinions were right for everyone,
especially someone who doesn't have access to information in other
ways. I would also be the last to minimize the usefulness of the
internet, I use it all the time. What I tried to say was that, for me
and for me only, when things come too easily, some of the challenge
and enjoyment is reduced, therefore I mostly limit that resource to
"dead end" situations and access to manuals, etc. that I couldn't
otherwise obtain.

Paul,
Your interest is clearly quite different from mine. Once I finish a
project, that's it; I have no interest in replicating the
accomplishment. I then move on to another effort. Now, repeaters are
a little different in that I did build one in the early 60's for a
club I belonged to at the time. Everything (except the RF decks and
power supplies( was custom designed and built, there was no source of
"off the shelf" components at the time. In 40 years, things have
changed enough where the same project is still a challenge, so I'll
try it again and, again, everything will be built from scratch. It
makes no difference how long it takes because, once the product is
complete to my satisfaction, the project is over for me. If I can't
find a home for it with some club, I will just dismantle it and move on.

Again, just a different perspective; not meant to ruffle anyone's
feathers.
Tom
