Ahh, the Tempo S1! You could always tell when someone had one of these because of the "Tempo Ping" when you went to transmit and the PLL locked. I still have my S1T on the shelf and I'm looking for the extendable antenna for it that I lost. I can't bring myself to getting rid of it.
It's a shame that they don't make radios with different built-in personalties. I would like to have several to choose from, dumb, moderately complicated, experienced and super user. With each personality would come features. The dumb mode would be a simple radio, no bells and whistles, just a plain communicator. All the features would be turned off and a simple programming mode would be used. As you got more familiar with the features, you could advance through the personalities, (or just stay in the dumb mode). I would also like the ability to enable or disable individual features on a radio as I wanted. This would greater simplify the radio during an emergency situation and eliminate the possibilities of putting your radio into an unknown mode of operation. Been there, done that. I "butt-dialed" my Yaesu VX7-R into the spectrum analyzer mode when I sat down during a drill. It took a while to disable this feature that I rarely use. 73, Joe, K1ike Chuck Kelsey wrote: > I still have, and occasionally use, my Icom IC-4AT and Tempo S1 hand held > radios - both have thumbwheel frequency selection for those who don't know > what they are.
