A lot of Kenwood radios, even fairly current-vintage ones, do this too.  You
can hear the VCO settle on frequency when the PTT is first keyed.  The
oscillation sounds like it's up around 3 or 4 kHz and dampens out to an
inaudible level after maybe a second.

Yeah, I agree.  Some of the radios that I own I hate because you have to go
through menus for even simple things like PL selection, which is a royal
PITA while you're driving.  Give me an X9000 with MPL, scan, and monitor
buttons and I'm happy...
