I used both.  I used UHF 4" pass cavities as 3/4 wave resonators, and also
took 900 MHz 1/4 wave cavities and cut down the center to shorten them.  In
both cases they were TX-RX 4" cavities.  Also, the TX-RX 1.2 GHz duplexers
use 4" cavities, 1/4 wave resonators.  I haven't converted any pass/reject
yet, but should be straightforward.
