To answer your questions.

Yes, I did follow the PDF to the t.  as well as the Moto manual.  The coil 
preset was followed.

The channel element is putting out a clean signal.

Not sure on the appropriate level?  Have not found levels in the documentation 
to compare to.

What I am thinking now, is the element is now so far towards the bottom of its 
usable frequency that it is unable to drive the exciter.
