In Michigan, our general liability insurance has a product liability provision, the premium is determined by our gross sales. The provision covers an situation say where a charger you sold starts a fire on customers premises, never installed, and probably plugged in by the customer, dealer still has some responsibility.
Talk to your agent, you may already be covered. Also quite common for customers requesting to be named as "additionally insured", so that your insurance covers any of their legal fees. I have a customer I have been dealing with for about 8 years that has decided they won't do business with anyone that does not have liability insurance on the products they vend. It seems rather stupid to me, but I guess that's what happens when lawyers get involved. Input appreciated.
