The vulnerabilities is not the only issues we are having. Other very serious issues are introduced and fixed along the way as well, during Replicant development. So it's best to point to a page that references the most important ones.
For the device pages, feel free to add some *generic* text near the link to the device status that mention potential issues. The idea is to stay generic and make sure that users go look at the link instead of replicating it in each device pages, in order to reduce the maintenance. Else if there is 1 thing to modify, we'd have to modify more than 10 pages which is time consuming. As we plan to migrate to Mediawiki at some point, if Redmine macros are used, they need to be easy to migrate too, so it's better to keep them simple. We also welcome suggestions and patches for the replicant.us page. For instance it would be a good idea to mention (also with generic text) that Replicant might have some potential issues on the main page as well. > Replicant not stating such a warning feeds the narrative, that > replicant rather wants to get more users than inform people > correctly. We don't want to force people to do something. - One one hand we are trying to inform people as best as we can so they could decide for themselves what to do. - On another hand we are trying to make it possible for anyone who wants to use Replicant, to be able to use it. Keep in mind that smartphones have way too many freedom privacy and security issues, and that to avoid these issues altogether, the most simple way is to not have any smartphone at all, as Replicant, or even better hardware cannot magically solve all these issues. We have extensive documentation on that. As for the distribution, keep in mind that Android has not been designed to respects users freedom but instead to run proprietary applications through stores like Google Play, so as an operating system it's very far from ideal. We also cannot read all its source code as there is just too much code. However FSDG compliant distributions cannot fully replace Replicant yet so there is still some interest in having a fully free Android distribution. Apart from the work on the Replicant 6 images, among other things: - We also try to share as much work as possible with other projects, and we even welcome forks to enable to support devices we explicitly don't want to support. Replicant 9 already uses a kernel that is very closely based on upstream Linux for instance. We also have to maintain libsamsung-ipc which supports devices we don't want to support in Replicant. - The work on the documentation is also super important: not everybody want nor can use Replicant and such people can also benefit from the documentation. Denis.
