I have a Sonnet 300MHz G3 upgrade in a PowerMac 9500 with OS8.6, 
running Retrospect to backup about 170 machines.  It runs like a 
champ.  If you're just backing up two machines, why put in a 
processor upgrade?  If you want to speed up your backups, upgrading 
to a high-speed SCSI drive setup would do the trick.
