We've had delays on our end due to some work on RBCommons, Power Pack, and customer support tasks that had to take priority, but work's been progressing on the 3.0 release. We definitely missed the release window I estimated before, but we opted to delay that in order to get some important work done that's going to greatly benefit the release. We're now finishing the last set of tasks for beta 2, and then we're going to try to get RC 1 out sooner. Right now, final release is estimated for October/November.
Given that 2.5 is pretty mature at this point, and that 3.0 is a series of incremental improvements on top of 2.5 it wouldn't be a bad idea to upgrade to 2.5 if you're in a hurry. The 3.0 upgrade should be pretty easy from there.
