Ah, I see. Yeah, the mask functions can mask characters based on their types, 
i.e. upper case, lower case, number digits, other chars etc.

I find that mask functions in Hive also recognize lower/upper cases non-ascii 
characters. As our first milestone (IMPALA-10407) is providing consistent UTF-8 
behavior with Hive, I'll update the patch and add more descriptions in the JIRA 
to make it less confusing. Thanks for pointing this out!
