i agree that the way it works now, this common-conjunct transformation only 
works for a very narrow use case.

to make it generally useful will require fairly extensive normalization (one of 
which should be to make && and || n-ary as opposed to binary, so we don't have 
to mix up traversal order with rule application - in this case, we'd have a 
single || predicate that includes all disjunctive clauses as children).
