The versions used in dependencies are mostly 1.2 - 1.4, except that a test
dependency uses 1.9. So we're already manually upgrading some and downgrading
other dependencies. I believe it's a net-net small improvement to simply manage
this up to the latest version to avoid the possible bug. LGTM, tests pass.
