In case my previous message was too long, here's the TL;DR:
If you remove the `trackMemoryThreshold` here, I will merge this patch.
However, for now we need to keep some notion of spacing out the checks (i.e.
every 32 items) for performance reasons. In a separate patch, it may be
worthwhile to check every N bytes instead.
