URL: https://github.com/apache/spark/pull/27329#issuecomment-579988322 from a quick look, I think this makes sense (including the rename), but I need sometime to look back through the code and see where exactly these properties are touched to make sure. It does seem like the property has more to do with whether executors collect the metrics. Writing to the event log does naturally follow, btu you also get the metrics in any listener. Also cc @LucaCanali who might have some thoughts here.
