I'm a bit surprised that upgrading parquet has such a low priority, especially with many important features like column indexes & cleaning up the timestamp situation/compatibility (even though I get the avro-situation is complicated). Hope someone can find a way forward. > BTW, FYI, there is no Apache Hive release supporting Avro 1.9.x.
