Hi @andrewor14 ,
We don't really have concrete plans to change this in the very short term;
if/when we get down to enhancing the dynamic allocation backend, cleaning up
this code (so that it's easy to make sure we're not breaking anything) would
probably be part of the work.
Nevertheless, it's still useful to know the motivation for having that code
in there, so thanks!
