@JkSelf I understand the rational behind the fallback and that's what we release to production now, which do avoid regression in some cases. Since there was no perfect algorithm, I was arguing to make it simpler and less volatile. I agree with @cloud-fan that we can suggest user to set minimum coalesce partition number to 1 and add document for now.
