That is strange - it doesn't seem to happen in Spark unit tests in 2.12. But Spark is on 2.12.10. From the links above, it seems like it could be an issue in 2.12.12. Therefore @dongjoon-hyun it might be useful to backport this just in case? It's a small change, and i think what it does is prevent the compiler from (incorrectly?) eliding the field during compilation.
