I think `JAVA_HOME` is something that YARN exposes to all containers, so
even if you don't set it for your application, that code should still work. I
think we problem here is a little different - we should just make sure the
tests have the same env as you'd find in an usual YARN installation.
Anyway, I'm trying something out in #5441.
