I agree with Shivaram's point that removing all filesystem dependencies is
a valuable point in the design space. For deployments without local
filesystems, but lots of RAM, having this option available (even if only as an
experimental mode) would be valuable. As mentioned above, using a RAM disk for
this can be tricky.
