Seems like #16478 is a good improvement that makes UDT both more performant and much easier to use. The only downside I see is that it is a breaking change to the UDT API -- which is okay to make now as it is private, but becomes less okay once we make it public with this PR. Is there any chance we can push out #16478 before this PR?
