@srowen Good question! To be honest, I think it'd probably take an hour or two of fiddling for me to answer correctly and with confidence. That said, the goal of the geospatial use case is to enable spatial UDTs, associated UDFs, and Catalyst optimization rules. I would guess that the encoder approach would only help with the first of those. So, yeah, do Encoders allow one to implement UDFs and/or Catalyst optimizations?
