I've been working on a benchmarking harness for this; I'll post some
numbers this afternoon. Preliminarily, though, it looks like both patches have
extremely similar performance characteristics when spilling and bypassSortMerge
are disabled, which is kind of what I expected given their similar high-level
designs.
