Review Comment:
   Can we make this API more generic, like adding an update api on 
`FileScanMetrics`?
   
   ```
   fileScanMetrics.update()
   ```
   
   Ideally, `FileScanRDD` doesn't need to know anything about variants, and all 
the updating and variant specific things happens in `FileScanMetrics`.
