The files this patch touches are identical on master and branch-4.0/4.1/4.2, apart from the new suite, so the cherry-pick should apply on those branches. branch-3.5 keeps the handler under `connector/connect/server/...` and the file has diverged there, though the four read paths are the same shape — that one needs a hand-written backport, which I'm happy to open after this lands if 3.5 is in scope.
