Review Comment:
Done in 1edcb55e4b7: this lookup uses `stageOf`, the 64-branch query is
`caseWhenOverT(64, end = -1)`, and a `commonSubexprColumns(col, alias)` helper
beside `caseWhenOverV` builds the eight columns for both tests.

Review Comment:
Agreed on all three. In 1edcb55e4b7, `splitFailed` starts with `if
(throwSplitFailure) throw e`, so both callers' throw arms are gone. The message
now reads "so its code is kept in one piece", which holds in both branches. It
attaches `e` only where the split's compile expected the failure, which is the
whole-fails branch outside testing. In the over-limit branch the trial has
already logged it as an ERROR with the source, so the WARN carries no
throwable. The chooseCode test checks both: `withFailure = true` for
`bothFail`, and no throwable plus `failureExpected === Seq(true, false)` for
`fails`. The comment above it now says where the throw happens.

Review Comment:
Thank you, right. In 1edcb55e4b7 the check is `methodsHolding(c,
"expand_mutableStateArray").exists(_.contains("caseWhen"))`, as you suggested.
`methodsHolding` ends a method at any `private`, `public` or `protected`
header, so it can't run into `processNext`. I changed the `subExpr` check in
the keyed-aggregate test the same way, for consistency: it intersects the
`subExpr` methods that take an `InternalRow` with `methodsHolding(c,
"caseWhen_")`.

Review Comment:
Thank you, the docs missed the `With` case. In 1edcb55e4b7 the `doCodeGen`
doc, the conf doc and the description use your wording: a compacted slot counts
as the field it is when code moves into a method. An operator's method that
took it as a parameter, and failed to compile, now compiles; a `With`
definition reading one, which stayed inline, gets its method. The `methodLimit`
doc now says "keeps its code in one piece".
