Hey @bryanjj, thanks for working on this. I'd love to have this feature,
but I'd like to accomplish it in a more general way if possible. For other
reasons we have been talking about adding the concept of equivalence classes to
Spark SQL (i.e. be able to track when a filter like `a = b` is present). Once
we add this I think this feature will be much easier to add. The related issue
here is https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SPARK-2205.
