Will probably merge this soon after Jenkins says OK as it blocks other
work. More compatibility tests need to be done, but I'd like to leave them to
follow-up PRs (ordered by importance):
- Compatibility tests for older versions of Spark SQL
- More patterns of nested complex types
- Avro enum
- Possibly compatibility tests for parquet-protobuf
