    Hi @JoshRosen @tdas --- sorry somehow I missed Josh's earlier comment.  I 
don't think https://github.com/apache/spark/pull/6423 fully solved this issue.  
We are still not guaranteed the byte buffer is disposed when getting or putting 
blocks.  (I also made a note that there was a leak w/ ExternalSorter ... that 
might be fixed by the other changes, I'll need to think about it some more.)
    
    Obviously this doesn't merge cleanly anymore -- I can update, but I'm a 
little reluctant to go through the effort if this issuse is really a "won't fix 
/ don't care"
