@andrewor14 running in `local` mode is misleading for stage failures -- you
really need to have multiple block managers in place to understand the
behavior, eg. with `local-cluster[2,1,1024]`. In any case, I've opened up
another jira where we can discuss this more, scattering this discussion over
multiple prs isn't the best: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SPARK-10042
fyi, the bug with stages getting retried infinitely is
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SPARK-5945, which is patiently awaiting
proper approval.
