Jenkins, test this please. @sebastienrainville thanks! Did you test this by
chance on your cluster? Unfortunately our test coverage is not good here.
In a related note, I made a JIRA to do a broader clean-up of this function.
Overall it's more complicated than it needs to be as is. But we should
definitely still merge this fix.
