FWIW, I've got the SPARK-1537 Yarn history provider hooked up to this in [a
branch](https://github.com/steveloughran/spark/tree/history/SPARK-7889%2BSPARK-1537-provider%2Bcache).
That uses a version counter on every entity publish made by the client on an
attempt; that's in the metadata so all it takes is an enum of recent apps + a
version comparison to look for newer values. With the code in this branch
merged in I can uncomment the incomplete spark UI test i'd had to skip.
