    @zjffdu please don't comment on closed PRs, especially ancient ones; that's 
super confusing. Use the dev@ list for that.
    
    To answer your questions: the "local:" scheme is defined in Spark's 
documentation. Defining a "hdfs" location for `spark.yarn.jar` should not cause 
it to be copied to the staging dir, unless they are on different HDFS servers. 
Maybe the way you're defining the value is confusing the code in Client.scala 
that checks that.
