it looks like the higher the requested number of topics, the larger the
documents have to be or else Perplexity goes to `NaN` shortly after the first
iteration. in testing against real data, this would happen even if there was
only one short outlier in the corpus. i'll see if i can throw together a test
to illustrate this if it would help.
