    I have the feeling that this guard is wrong. This disables this entire 
clause if `conf.orderByOrdinal` is `false`. Shouldn't it be: 
`!conf.orderByOrdinal || sortOrder.forall(x => 
IntegerIndex.unapply(x.child).isEmpty)`
