Thanks for working on this and taking the time to update to avoid the array
copy :) There doesn't appear to be any tests for the new functionality which is
generally a requirement and that could help us see how we would expect people
to use this as well. Also if we make this change here we would probably want to
something similar in `ml/linalg/` as well.
