Github user kiszk commented on the issue: https://github.com/apache/spark/pull/15837 IMHO, it would be good to stop applying subexpression elimination to a very simple expression (e.g. `Literal(1))`). This is because it takes some cost (e.g. executing a conditional branch) for this subexpression elimination at runtime.
