re @shivaram -- this is totally bizarre, and nothing is popping in to mind
about what could be causing this. it's definitely not the build timeout (5
hours) or the timeout in run-tests-jenkins.py, nor are any system cleanup cron
jobs running that could be responsible for this.
i'll keep poking around and trying to figure this out.
