Thanks for the review @wesm! Those are good ideas, I'll work on an update
to this. As for the packaging conflicts, I had to add exclusions for
`com.fasterxml.jackson.core:jackson-annotations`, ` jackson-databind` and
`org.slf4j:log4j-over-slf4j`. These don't seem too critical to me and it was a
while ago so I'll double check if they are still a problem.
