    The `convert` method throws a `MatchError` if an expression is not a 
compatible Hive partition filter. Otherwise it returns a compatible partition 
pruning string. While using exception handling in this way can certainly be 
considered an anti-pattern, it does make for a much simpler implementation and 
type signature of the `convert` method.
