nit: can just have `JoinType("...")` here and below. Also, can we have a
test that checks for the correct exception for wrong join types? Something
along the lines of:
```scala
val ex = intercept[IllegalArgumentException] {
JoinType.apply("wrong_join")
}
ex.getMessage() should contain "..."
```
