Github user holdenk commented on the issue: https://github.com/apache/spark/pull/13599 So this certainly seems interesting, although like the linked PR it's also a non-trivial change. By attempting to also handle the interactive case (which certainly is important) we've got many different code paths for installing packages. That being said I think we need conda/virtualenv support - and 2.3 is probably a good time for us to work on this. Maybe we should have a conversation on the dev@ list for approaches once 2.2 is out? What do @davies / @zjffdu / @stibbons / @gatorsmile think about this?
